In this session we explore the new curriculum and resources being developed by CCSD Grade 5 Social Studies Curriculum Committee. An overview of the curriculum and methodology will be presented with a focus on materials for Unit 1: Canada. Participants will be able to experience lessons and enter the school year prepared to teach the first unit in the fall.
Grade have an enormous impact on the lives of students, yet the number on the report card doesn’t always accurately reflect a student’s level of skill or understanding. In this session we will explore methods and strategies that support more equitable grading systems- systems that reduce bias, help educators streamline instruction and assessment, and ultimately motivate and engage all students in standards-based mastery learning.
Ready to implement more equitable, standards-based systems of learning, assessment, and grading into your classroom? Join us as we continue our journey and explore ways of prioritizing sequential and cyclical skills and developing rubrics and assessments. Ways of communicating your new system to students and families will also be discussed.
